Israeli Military Adopts Measures to Counter Hezbollah Drone Threat

(MENAFN) The Israeli military has opted to reduce the length of time its helicopters remain on the ground within Lebanon, aiming to lower the chances of being detected and targeted by Hezbollah, according to Army Radio on Wednesday.

This adjustment forms part of a broader set of actions introduced by the armed forces to confront the increasing danger posed by explosive drones deployed by Hezbollah against Israeli personnel, the broadcaster reported.

“Army representatives attended a closed-door session in the Knesset earlier this week to discuss the drone threat and presented measures to address it,” the radio said, referring to Knesset discussions on the issue.

The outlined initiatives include enhancements to soldiers’ individual weaponry, boosting their capacity to intercept aerial threats. These improvements involve supplying advanced optical devices and fragmentation rounds, thereby increasing the likelihood of successfully striking incoming drones.

Additionally, the military has chosen to limit the duration helicopters spend landing inside Lebanese territory, especially during medical evacuation operations. This step is intended to decrease the probability that Hezbollah can pinpoint their position and launch attacks against them.

This shift follows a recent incident in which Israeli troops sustained injuries after Hezbollah deployed an explosive drone aimed at a helicopter engaged in an evacuation task.

Hezbollah has continued to execute drone and missile strikes targeting Israeli forces and military vehicles in southern Lebanon, actions it says are in retaliation for ongoing Israeli breaches of a temporary ceasefire.
